How are leads attributed to the relevant channel?

When attributing leads to a channel we are following the attribution as defined by Google Analytics.

If you are using UTM parameters we will attribute leads to the channels as defined below:

These are case sensitive, you must use lower case to ensure these are accurately mapped and tracked. Lower case is universally how utm parameters are set.

If you are using the DenGro capture hook or Zapier to connect your leads you must ensure that you have mapped your attribution to the relevant field for this logic to then apply.

Paid Search

  • if GCLID is set

    • OR

  • referral domain is a search engine AND utm_medium is one of [cpc|ppc|paidsearch|paid-search]

    • We define a search engine as one of the following:
      [Google|Bing|Yahoo|AOL|DuckDuckGo|Sogou|Baidu|Ecosia]

Paid Social

  • if facebook_ad_id is set

    • OR

  • referral domain is a social network AND utm_medium is one of the following:
    [cpc|ppc|paidsocial|paid-social|paid_social|fbads|facebookppc|fb-ppc]

    • We define social networks as one of the following:[Facebook|Twitter|tiktok|Pinterest|SnapChat|Instagram|LinkedIn|Weibo|Tumblr|YouTube|WhatsApp|WeChat]

Other Online Advertising

  • if utm_medium is one of[cpc|ppc|paidsearch]

Organic Search

If referral domain is a search engine AND utm_medium is null or organic

  • We define a search engine as one of the following:
    [Google|Bing|Yahoo|AOL|DuckDuckGo|Sogou|Baidu|Ecosia]

Social

  • referral domain is a social network

    • OR

  • utm_medium is one of the following:
    [social|social-network|social-media|sm|social network|social media]

    • We define social networks as one of the following:[Facebook|Twitter|tiktok|Pinterest|SnapChat|Instagram|LinkedIn|Weibo|Tumblr|YouTube|WhatsApp|WeChat]

Referred By Another Practice

  • if referral URL is set

Direct

  • if utm_medium is null (no value) and no previous rule has been matched.

Direct is also used if we have been unable to determine how the lead was captured.

Unavailable

  • If none of the above criteria is met

  • If utm_medium has been set with any value and no previous rule has been matched.

Other Channels

If utm_medium is defined, DenGro will set the Channel according to Google Analytics’ categorisation of Mediums and Channels.

Where UTM parameters are missing, but a referral URL is captured, DenGro will set the Channel according to the domain using the following logic.

  • DenGro will assume the Channel is ‘Social’ for domains that contain the following: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Weibo, Tumblr, YouTube, WhatsApp, WeChat.

  • DenGro will assume the Channel is ‘Organic Search’ for domains that contain the following: Google, Bing, Yahoo, AOL, DuckDuckGo, Sogou, Baidu, Ecosia.
